Director, Restaurant Systems & Operations Technology
Job Description:
About the Company
A fast-growing, founder-led restaurant franchise brand built around a craft culinary concept, currently expanding across multiple states with plans to grow significantly through new and existing franchise partners. The company is still very much in a hands-on, operator-driven stage: leadership works directly in the business day to day, and the culture reflects that, no one is above rolling up their sleeves to solve a problem.
About the Role
This is not a traditional corporate IT role. The company is looking for an operator-minded technology leader, someone who has lived restaurant operations, not just supported it from the outside, and who understands the day-to-day realities of running multi-unit, franchise-supported restaurants.
The ideal candidate combines deep, hands-on technical fluency with the interpersonal skills to work directly with franchise partners, translating between technical vendors and the people running restaurants on the ground.
What You'll Own
- Core technology stack ownership, including POS (Toast), back-office/inventory and financial reporting (Restaurant365), digital ordering (Olo), loyalty (Thanx) and gift card, and local marketing platforms, loyalty and gift card are jointly managed with marketing, so this is a close partnership rather than sole ownership
- Franchise partner support, serving as the escalation point and translator between Franchise Partners, internal teams, and outsourced technical support, not just routing tickets, but understanding the operational impact and communicating clearly under pressure
- Vendor and MSP relationship management, providing strategic direction to an outsourced technical support partner so decisions are driven by the brand, not by the vendor
- Full-cycle technology deployments, leading rollouts across dozens of locations, from planning through execution, not just selecting a platform and handing off implementation to someone else
- New restaurant opening technology setup, ensuring every new location comes online with a consistent, correctly configured technology stack from day one, this becomes increasingly important as the brand scales toward larger growth commitments
- Data integrity and reporting cleanup, including standardizing POS configuration across locations to enable accurate, consolidated reporting across sales channels
- Ongoing platform migration ownership, including the final stages of a digital ordering platform transition
- Vendor selection and technology roadmap input, gathering requirements across stakeholders and making build-vs-buy recommendations as the company scales
- Cross-functional partnership with marketing on martech and website/CMS-adjacent needs (bonus, not required)
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days
- Deep familiarity with the current technology stack, vendor relationships, and known problem areas
- Meaningful progress on a significant data/reporting cleanup initiative
- Established working rhythm with the outsourced technical support partner and internal stakeholders
- Early wins that build trust with both leadership and franchise partners
What We're Looking For
- 7-10+ years of experience in restaurant or hospitality technology, ideally within a multi-unit or franchise environment
- Deep, hands-on experience with Toast POS, this is a non-negotiable requirement, not a nice-to-have
- Experience with Restaurant365, Olo, or comparable restaurant back-office and ordering platforms
- A proven track record leading (not just advising on) technology deployments across dozens of locations
- Experience standing up technology for new restaurant openings in a multi-unit or franchise environment, comfortable being the person who ensures a new location's tech stack works correctly on day one
- Experience managing outsourced technical support or MSP relationships
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills; comfortable working directly with restaurant operators, not just corporate stakeholders
- Vendor management and requirements-gathering experience
- Comfort operating in a lean, early-stage environment where you'll do the work yourself, not just direct others
- Availability outside standard business hours when operational issues require it (this is a restaurant business, not a 9-to-5)
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with martech tools, CMS platforms (e.g., Contentful), or basic web/code troubleshooting
- Experience evaluating and selecting restaurant technology vendors
- Awareness of data security/compliance considerations relevant to payment and guest data (PCI, PII)
Compensation
Competitive, commensurate with experience and scope. Range will be shaped by candidate seniority and location.
